>Babies could be vaccinated with brain-altering chemicals to stop them getting hooked on drugs and cigarettes in later life, it is reported today. >Newborns would have jabs which could prevent addiction to cocaine, heroin or tobacco, under secret Downing Street plans. >Details of the extraordinary proposal to stop the annual £20 billion cost of drug misuse are in a leaked No 10 policy document. >Scientists have already developed a drug called naltrexone that eases heroin withdrawal symptoms. >A cocaine vaccine called TA-CD has now been developed, the document says. Ministers could also crack down on drug dens by having the post scanned for supplies using modern technology, while police helicopters would use revolutionary laser radar systems to test the air for chemicals used to make drugs. >The document, reportedly being considered by Tony Blair's working group on crime, talks of "immunotherapies" developed in secret to protect a generation. >It says: "A young person could be immunised and the drugs would never reach or affect the brain. Drug-related crimes could be reduced if vaccines can be successfully developed to reduce the craving." ArticleShould babies have anti-drug jabs?
I dont think this vaccine should be given, Not until a series of vaccines can be produced into a nice * triple shot* the DRP vaccine, the contents of which can be injected into the young comrades at the infant level of their development. D ( drugs tobacco Alcohol) replaced with a Koolaid addiction. R ( Religious interests, spirituality)but replaced with a nice docile yet fierce patriotism. P ( Politics, Philosophy) but will be replaced with genetic party loyalty, and an inability to plunge into deep philosophical thought. It seems to me giving only one type of this vaccine without the others would be rather cruel. While citizens are still under some illusions of having choices, causing them to attempt to practise them would lead to serious psychological damage.

Cool. inject them with brain altering chemicals to stop them getting hooked on brain altering chemicals. hmmm.
It sounds pretty amazing, and on the face of it a great idea - but also extremely sinister. What other brain altering possibilities could infants be injected with?
An appaling idea, if i have children i would like them to grow up and decide themselves if they want to experience the joy/sadness of drugs.

This mass-medication idea is just pure madness. Do politicians not understand that drugs like cocaine and heroin also have a genuine therapeutic use?
Rendering diamorphine useless as a pain relieving drug will just cause misery for thousands if not millions of people in the future.

Dont be silly. All pain can be cured by having FAITH. Drugs are the work of SATAN dontcha know.
What a bunch of kill-joys!
So the kids of tomorrow will never know the joy of being e'd out of your box whilst snorting cocaine of the thighs of a Thai hooker. I pity them.
On a serious note however, even if this is possible, which I doubt. One would have to consider the health risks of such an injection - who knows what the long term effects could be. You are talking about carrying out a preventative treatment that may or may not be needed. Also would it be optional to have this treatment or would it become mandatory. This is very Big Brotherish - It's for your own good! We have to protect you against yourselves!

flouride
BCG
MMR
> Do politicians not understand that drugs like cocaine and heroin also have a genuine therapeutic use?
it's a made up story designed to deflect media attention from current issues.

until such time as other "blocker" circumventing drugs are produced for medical purposed then copied onto the black market and were back to square one.
What a peculiar & frightening thing to think up ... what about the children that will grow up without the urge to ever try an illegal substance?!?! Madness.

That’s old hat.
It's been injected into the southern states drinking water for decades.

I've never agreed with flouridation of the water supply...
> BCG
> MMR
And both of these are intended to counteract serious communicative diseases.
Is drug addiction contageous?

That much I agree with.

brittle bones
neurological damage
gastrological problems
cardiac problems
but strong (yellow) teeth.

true
> Is drug addiction contageous?
not in the sense of a biological contagion however drug addiction, progression and impact on society and individuals mortalityrates/long term health impacts/wecondary infections v exposure resembles in many ways the spread of a contagious disease.

Well, my kids wouldn't be given the jabs. I advisedly gave them vaccines against communicable diseases from which they may by chance become infected to reduce the overall probability that they will have health problems. I'm not going to stick chemicals into them to enforce life choices when they grow up. What an unpleasant thought. What kind of odious control freak does the government think I am?
Oh, it's just a smokescreen. Of course.
> Is drug addiction contageous?
The AMA have labeled it a disease with a genetic factor.

Yes, an obvious way to form a comparison but what you are describing is no different to the spread of many cultural or sociological traits, like violence or revolutionary ideas. I'm sure that if vaccinations were developed against "impure thoughts" or to introduce compliance and docility in the population you would think it an unjustified and immoral system of control.

I think in light of this New Labour should be renamed - so as to be somewhat more transparent as to there long term intentions.
How about = New God
