I'm becoming increasingly sick and mad about the level of petty and violent crime I am witnessing and being involved in living in London, its making me want to move. But why should I, I work hard here and pay taxes, can't we just get some decent policing?
This year I have had two attempted muggings, had a car stolen and today another attempted mugging on the TUBE!? I'm pretty wise to this kind of crap, I really worry for those that don't see it coming...
Walked into baker st station platform at about 4.30pm just before rush hour. Was checking my phone as I walked along, before getting on tube with no signal. As I reached the station platform heading East on the Hammersmith and City line, I noticed a pretty large gang of youths, hoodies, caps, acting tough, different ages from what looked like late teens to early 20’s (possibly 15 guys, although didn't stare, only glanced). I noticed them as its rare to have that many people traveling together.
Platform fairly busy with people going home and tourists etc, not expecting them to be a group of muggers / tea leafs.
Out the corner of my eye I thought I saw one point over to me with his head and others acknowledged, I hoped it wasn't, carrying on convincing myself I was being paranoid. Who would try anything on a busy platform at this time of the day, right?
Walked far away down platform from these guys, there were other people around, this platform as seats in the alcoves of the walls, I found one with a girl on and sat the otheside form her.
Less than a min later one of the guys walked next to me and sort of dropped a paper on the floor as if to be making some sort of action to explain stopping right next to wear I was sitting. Yeh right son, like I'm not onto your game.
Two of his friends joined straight behind him, as they arrived he then he sat next to me playing with his or 'a' phone, as if to tell me what he wanted with no fuss. Staring straight at me with his friends the other side. I immediately put mine in my pocket so it could not be snatched. With this guy now next to me looking at me with intent and his friends the other side, I decided I needed to move, quickly.
I picked up bags and walked away, and the guy sitting down said 'ahh he is running away', which I took as vindication I wasn’t being paranoid. They started to follow me down the platform.
So I walked right along, passed rest of group who thankfully weren't paying attention and continued up to ticket office.
I decided going back on platform was dangerous, decided to take another route, which cost me an extra hour in traveling.
Annoyingly I was late for a business appointment otherwise I'd have told the staff/Police. But didn't have time to spend filling statements etc.
I absolutely hate that I got intimidated off a platform today in broad day light, what is going on in a city when everyday people are not safe on the streets, on public transport?

Shocking story. Glad you had your wits about you and kept your cool. You wonder what all these CCTV cameras are meant to do! Surely if anyone is actually monitoring the stations they would have picked up on this pack of feral youths and asked for a couple of Bobbies to pop down on the platform and have a 'friendly chat' with this group. Perhaps a spot check by revenue inspectors might have been useful?
